Morning Spy Press Coverage (partial list)

San Francisco Chronicle:
"Starting with an already-cultivated dream pop, mid-fi composite, the San Francisco quartet have built on their strengths with a trajectory somewhere between Destroyer and Grandaddy. Their new LP, The Silver Age (Keep and Abandoned Love), shows a quickly developing maturity in songwriting and production, with greater interaction between music and lyrics, and a mix that displays a well-toned sonic physique"
--July 2005

The Portland Mercury:
"Wow - San Francisco's Morning Spy split the difference between Dean Wareham's Galaxie 500 meanderings and the more focused pop of Luna--weaving through it all contemporary strands of indie rock."
--June 2005

Pop Matters:
"Morning Spy is making beautifully intelligent pop music …The Silver Age is an excellent record. Rating: 7/10"
--Peter Funk, June 2005

Mesh Magazine:
"This San Francisco indie pop band's second release is a solid effort, emitting the sound of Luna with a tinge of Papas Fritas. 'Two Horse' is a good pop song, with a great guitar outro. 'Voices and Vigils' also has a similar guitar finale that is oh so good. Just when you think that the band is getting slightly edgier with the beginning of 'Sugar Witch', it bring you back to the lo-fi indie pop harmony that encompasses the entire album. If you love indie pop, Morning Spy won't disappoint."
--Ian Rivamonte, December 2005

Punk Planet:
"Fans of the New Pornographers will find a lot to love in Morning Spy; the comparison is probably inevitable since both bands split lead vocal duties between strong male and female singers. While not as rocking and power-poppy as the Pornographers can be, The Silver Age is an album full of sweet, dreamy pop music that's inviting and infectious."
--June 2005

Flavorpill:
"Surrounding urban landscapes be damned - the best indie-pop bands transport their audiences to places of idyllic beauty. Witness this triple-threat lineup of Vervein, Teri Falini, and Morning Spy at Cafe Du Nord; three perfectly matched rising pop acts sharing a tiny stage on Market Street. Headliners Vervein have inspired comparisons to an experimental Mazzy Star while four piece Teri Falini spins things more viscerally (and loudly) on their recently dropped debut record Sun Under Me. Do not, repeat, do not miss the opening set by local pop workhorses Morning Spy. After a recent tour of the west, the band's brain-splitting lyrical shimmer and finely-tuned lo-fi instrumentation have become nothing short of dazzling."
--June 2005

Smother:
"Sugar-coated in malaise and abandonment issues on tape, The Silver Age bounces from the lo-fi indie folk that is gaining more popularity in the underground to the obscure art rock that lays out gorgeous pathways to excellence encouraging other acts to follow"
--August 2005

Devil in the Woods #5.4
"This three-song demo from San Francisco, CA's Morning Spy is full of dreamy pop for rainy days. Two of the tracks are sung by guitarest Allison Goffman, but the winning number is "Slow Flood", which features bassist Jon ROoney singing in a Dean Wareham/Stephin Merrit sort of way. His deep vocals over the jangly pop are charming, and the guitar breaks, bass lines and Goffman's backing vocal are perfect"
--April 2004
